Xstrata’s Ulan longwall project contract awarded

Delta SBD has been awarded the Xstrata Ulan Longwall Project in the upper Hunter Valley, New South Wales.

Already one of the largest contract companies servicing the Australian underground coalmining industry, the Ulan project highlights Delta SBD’s ongoing forte in the industry.

“The Ulan Longwall Project is the third consecutive longwall project we have undertaken at Ulan in the past two and a half years, further demonstrating our dominance in this type of work, and our ability to forge long term relationships with clients,” Delta SBD’s chief executive officer Stephen Bizzaca said.

In previous longwall projects at Ulan, Delta SBD has only provided one to two items of diesel equipment, however in this upcoming project the full range of their longwall fleet will be provided, including one 55-ton extra heavy duty vehicle, one 40-ton heavy duty vehicle, two 10-ton and two 15-ton multifunction units, three 50-ton chock trailers and two personnel transporters.

Structural changes in global coal markets and the cyclical rebound in global growth are driving increasing demand for thermal and metallurgical coal.

Delta SBD sees such changes and a positive future coal industry forecast promising in maintain a consistent set of business opportunities.

“The Ulan project demonstrate our consistency in being awarded work, as well as expanding our longwall fleet utilisation, ensuring Delta SBD is well placed to deliver growth for the current financial year and beyond,” said Bizzaca.
