The Project Management Institute’s Pharmaceutical Community of Practice (PMI Pharma CoP) will hold its 6th Annual Biopharmaceutical Project Management Conference in North Carolina, USA, this year.

The conference, held over 7-9 March 2011, will look at the transformation of the pharmaceutical industry with regard to operational and regulatory issues and the role of project managers in assisting organisations with these changes.

PMI noted that the rising costs of healthcare, increasingly strict regulatory requirements and industry consolidation have led to a greater need for restructuring, cost reduction and change management projects: “More than ever, successful project management is a key factor in bringing a new drug or therapy to market.”

The three-day event will include tutorials and presentation sessions on topics such as ‘Understanding & Managing Uncertainty in Pharma & Biotech R&D’ and ’21st Century Skills for a Sustainable Business Strategy’. Keynote speakers include Steven P Thomas, vice president at AstraZeneca, Wendy Sanhai, senior scientific advisor at the Food & Drug Administration, and Sandy Macrae, senior vice president at GlaxoSmithKline.
