Project deliverables out, project benefits in

Project management author Dr Ofer Zwikael believes accepted project management practice is flawed because it is preoccupied with deliverables when benefits should be at the forefront of every project decision.

Co-author of Project Management for the Creation of Organisational Value, Zwikael will present a workshop at the PMOz (Project Management Australia) Conference in Sydney that aims to provide participants with a framework to enhance project benefits via a comprehensive look at how projects are chosen and its products delivered.

Working on the notion that “projects and programs are approved and funded to generate benefits”, Zwikael will address the full project cycle, “from project selection and definition, through execution, and beyond implementation of deliverables until benefits are secured”.

The workshop is designed for senior executives who play a sponsorship role in projects, project practitioners, as well as project and program managers.

At the end of the workshop, participants should be able to:

  • Enhance their capabilities as senior sponsors of projects
  • Increase the quality decisions made on business cases
  • Use new tools to design, validate and evaluate project scope
  • Develop an effective project governance model
  • Define target outcomes for projects.
